Eric Handel

Pastor Handel has 42 years of experience as a professional teacher and educational administrator. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education at the State University of New York at Oneonta with a Minor in Science in 1975 and his Master of Science in Education at Russell Sage College in 1991. He also received his Permanent Teaching Certification in 1991 from New York State for Spanish grades 7-12. He will be teaching Spanish in the high school.

During his professional teaching career, he has instructed children at every grade level from grades kindergarten-12, in one subject or another. He has 29 years of teaching experience as a New York State public school elementary school teacher and Spanish teacher, plus 9 years of teaching experience as a Christian school teacher in the USA and overseas in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico, Budapest, Hungary, and 3 years of experience as a Christian school principal.

He made a decision to trust Christ as his Savior at age 19 at a college Bible study in 1974 and has been teaching and preaching the Bible ever since. Pastor Handel most loves his incredible wife Bea (44+ together), his two adult children, Leah and John Eric, and children of all ages, especially his granddaughter. He truly enjoys teaching Bible college courses and español, preaching the gospel, creating multi-media biblical presentations. He has been running an after-school Good News Club program at GGCA. His hobbies include kayaking with Bea and eating gourmet health food (Bea’s home cooking).

Dawn Doorenbos

Dawn Doorenbos returns to GGCA as the high school English teacher after spending time serving as a foreign missionary in South Korea. While there, she taught high school and middle school English at an International Christian school for ten years.  She earned a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education English and Bible from Grace University and a Masters degree in Education in Teaching from Indiana Wesleyan University. Dawn loves writing and helping students to build their lives on a firm foundation so that they may be successful in life and learn to communicate truth effectively to others.

Carolynn Peters

Miss Peters was born in Wisconsin, but her journey continued, first to New York City and then to various places around the world. She possesses over 30 years of teaching experience in art, drama, yoga, and more.  She has taught in Brooklyn, New York, at GGCA and the Bryn Mawr school in Baltimore, as well as our sister school, GGIS, in Budapest, Hungary. Recently, while serving as a missionary to Belgrade, Serbia, she taught English. She taught our 4th grade for a couple of years, but will now use her many gifts to teach history and drama in the high school.

Hector Eduardo Valle

Mr. Valle graduated from the Polytechnic University in Guayaquil Ecuador in 1990, with a Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering. He then graduated from MBC&S in 2004 with his Bachelors in Biblical studies and went on to CCBC to complete an Associates in Science. He has previously taught Spanish language at GGCA from 2000-2004, as well as Mathematics and other technical classes at CCBC from 2005 to 2007. Mr. Valle has been part of the GGWO ministry since 1985, and over the years has served in different capacities in Guayaquil, Ecuador, Baltimore MD, and recently in Houston TX. Mr. Valle is currently our high school math teacher.

Jon Saboe

Jon spent the first 19 years of his life in the mountains of North Idaho near the Canadian border. During high school he toured with various bands playing jazz piano in Spokane, Reno, and other parts of the Pacific Northwest.
After a year at Whitman College studying astrophysics and linguistics, God called Jon to Peabody Music Conservatory in Baltimore where he eventually got his Masters from Johns Hopkins.
Jon joined the Baltimore Bible Speaks in 1985 and has been active in music, outreach, and education since then. He met his wife, Valory, at the church and they were married in 1994.
He is a regular guest lecturer and substitute for MBC&S, and helped found the popular “Science Guys” series.
Jon taught music at Goucher College, teaches private piano at Artist Academy, and is also a regular speaker at the Frederick Maryland Creation Society. He currently teaches science in GGCA’s middle school and physics in the high school.

Barbara Cook

Originally from upstate New York, Mrs. Cook moved to Baltimore in 1989 with her husband, Mike, to attend MBC&S. A year later their son, Jon, was born. Over the next 18 years she enjoyed helping her husband coach CYA soccer and baseball, ministering to middle-schoolers in Club Friday, and participating in the Skeet Shoot for Missions fundraisers.

In 2003 Mrs. Cook earned a Bachelor’s degree from Notre Dame of Maryland University, majoring in writing and minoring in photography. She also earned a certificate in Communication and New Technology.

Mrs. Cook taught ninth and tenth grade English at GGCA in 2003-2005, and taught yearbook from 2003-2006. She is thrilled that some of her former students are now her fellow teachers.

From 2007-2017 the Cooks moved back to the Northeast to help their aging family members. During that time Mrs. Cook was a freelance journalist and photographer, a reporter for a daily newspaper and a supervisor in the banking and retail industries.

The Cooks returned to Baltimore in Fall, 2017 and Mrs. Cook began teaching at GGCA part time in January 2018. This school year she is utilizing all her skills as she teaches American Government, Economics, Creative Writing, Modern World History, computer, photography and yearbook.

Mrs. Cook is continuing her Bible College education and can often be found sitting with some of her students from the class of 2018 in class or the cafe.

In her spare time Mrs. Cook enjoys being with her husband and dogs, kayaking, biking and visiting her son, who is a teacher at GGIS in Budapest, Hungary. She and her son have a photography business, Two Cooks Photography.

Theresa Hoffses

Mrs. Hoffses has been connected to GGCA for many years, first as a graduate and now as a teacher. Her education at Maryland Bible College & Seminary, her MA of Education (TESOL) from Regent University and her experience as a missionary in Brazil have uniquely qualified her.

She taught ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) in both the U.S. and Brazil. In addition, she taught in adult continuing education programs at both Baltimore City Community College (BCCC) and Community College of Baltimore County (CCBC)

She is married to Isaac Hoffses and they have two wonderful children, Emily and Jack, who are both students at GGCA.

Pat Lynch

Coach Lynch graduated from Stevens Christian School in 1983 and Stevens School of the Bible in 1987. He became the Athletic Director at GGCA in 1990. He served as president of the Maryland Christian Athletic League for 18 years. Has successfully led the GGCA Eagles to numerous national, state, and league titles in soccer, basketball, and baseball as the boys’ varsity head coach in these sports. In addition to teaching Physical Education and working at the AD at GGCA (where his two children attend school), he directs a youth instructional league on Saturdays (soccer, basketball, and baseball) and runs summer sports camps. He also volunteers as a counselor at Camp Life. As a young man who grew up in the church and enjoyed playing high school and college sports, Pat sees the value athletics can play in the lives of young people. Pat’s wife,Jennifer, is a great coach in her own right and has led the championship girls basketball program for many years while serving  both the school and the Greater Grace church.
